About Me

Ms Shannon Beth is:

an inspirational collection of ideas, notes & tips,
for finding happiness + inspiration in everyday things.

[a little bit like living an ordinary life, extraordinarily]
My name is Shannon and I’m actually not sure why, but I like it. I didn’t always though. For a period of time, all I wanted to be called was Beth (my middle name). I also go by Shan, Clattenburg, Shanahan or Shannigans (all equally original, I know). I have a love hate relationship with my hair, and the only original nickname I have from when I was child is related to my mop hair. It might be buried somewhere on this site, if you dig enough.
I’m way over ambitious. I full-heartedly take on too many things, only to discover that I might be in over my head. But I expand and grow every time, and I get addicted to the feeling of challenging myself.

I am inspired by the beauty of the written word, the movement of a black and white photograph, and the power of emotion. I’m fairly certain I was a graphic designer in a previous life, as I find typography extremely compelling. It’s a shame though, that I don’t remember how to actually put my ideas into actual graphic design.

I want to someday surround myself with the beauty of art, and be able to somehow appreciate it all.

I drink wine when I cook, I daydream in the sun, and when I’m outdoors hours literally feel like minutes. I’m peculiar about where I work, easily inspired, and am naturally drawn towards fantastic colour combinations. I’d like to be a fashionista (really!) but something tells me that it’s just not in the cards. Regardless, I still try, and sometimes write about my fashion adventures as well.

What I Love

writing. taking pictures. reflecting. moving forward. soul searching. creating. making things with pretty papers. baking. spending hours in chapters. traveling. the 30 seconds of lift-off on plane rides. drinking coffee. colour coding things. learning. classy musicals like Moulin Rouge & Chicago. libraries. vintage inspired clothing. typewriters. record players. Bob Marley & the Wailers.

My Dabblings

Although I’m painting my masterpiece as I go, I’ve gotten to do a few great things so far along the way. I may not belong to a bazillion networks, or associations, but I’ve experienced great and interesting things, and learned a ton along the way.

  • Ran an entire school fundraiser called Backpack Attack to collect backpacks filled with essentials to send to Honduras after they experienced a devastating natural disaster.
  • Held the secretary position for our local Rotaract chapter
  • Instilled in my babysister the entrepreneural bug and helped launch her at-home cake decorating company Made.for{you}cakes!
  • Developed, produced and implemented an entire employee orientation package for a growing company (including employee guidebook, safety manual, and required logs needed for construction industry).
  • Designed & constructed custom wedding invitations for a wonderful soon-to-be married couple.
  • Hatched the idea of becoming self-employed. Then finally took the leap needed to make it happen. Designed and launched 3 Squares Bookkeeping & Business Services.

Things I Do Now

  • Spend hours in my “studio” making crafty crafty things for family and friends (and by studio I mean tiny little corner built in desk space next to the laundry room in our one bedroom apartment).
  • Listen to music for hours on end. It’s an addiction.
  • Write and edit website and newsletter content – because it usually makes me smile (and helps me make a living!)
  • Help people improve their resumes so they can get kick-butt jobs doing what they love.
  • Develop social media and content strategies for small, forward thinking businesses.

What I Believe

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so that they will be happier.
The way it works is the reverse. you must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, to have what you want.
